  • Rounded corners with css3

    Lately i have been thinking hard and long about how much i’m really interested in supporting Internet Explorer users, and in all honesty i don’t mind them not getting the full user experience. So in the latest website i am developing, i decided to use the css3 rounded corners attribute to create some easy beautiful rounded corners. The best part, if you are using IE you just get to see them not be rounded, which doesn’t hurt the page that much at all. Here is how it works:

    background-color: #ccc;
    -moz-border-radius: 5px;
    -webkit-border-radius: 5px;
    border: 1px solid #000;
    padding: 10px;

    pretty straight forward. If you just wanna make the top left corner rounded and not the rest use

    # -moz-border-radius-topleft / -webkit-border-top-left-radius
    and so on. Hope this helps!

  • the minimi conept (not the mini me)

    I wrote this 2 times already but each time i either accidentally close the tab or clicked the preview instead of the submit button :( so this is my third and final time writing it.

    The minimi concept is the basic idea of always checking for a spelling error when dealing with images, classes, and id’s in your development code. I spend three days trying to figure out our sideBar navigation system which is based on asp.net and written in C#, it turned out to be a simple spelling error, instead of Minimum it said Minimim… three days later and a bunch of fixes code rewrites, me and my colleagues had some find discovering the mistake together. But as i say “what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger” so hopefully my time wasted/spent can help others use the minimi concept.

  • vpgames and vpgameslive

    Recently I “finished” a couple huge projects that i had been working on for a year or so smile vpgames and vpgameslive. Really proud of both, since they were completely developed by my smile which i can’t say for that many websites i’ve worked on. I usually build a part of a website, improve it, or just redesign/recode something that just wasn’t done right in the first place. I guess websites like Tristan Prettyman are still very much my creation, but whenever i’d find myself in a hole mister Mike Wald would help me get back on track and learn something new and exciting every single day! I couldn’t thank enough to the guys in oniracom who gave me a such an important boost in my career. They provided me the chance to work with some really great artists, and do some very cool development work, that will most definitely help me perform my career work for a long long time! Thanks oniracom, also i special thanks to Stefan Von Imhof who was my boss over at vpgames and let me do what i do best, create websites and give advice about the internet.

    Anyways, i think i got a little lost there, what i was trying to get at is that vpgames.com has broken the top 500,000 in the whole internet, which for me is a happy day, and quite the achievement. And Jack Johnsons website (created by Oniracom) is in the top 100,000 ranked at 70,339 in Alexa.

  • exfrag - my own little business (attempt 1)

    Since i was very very young, the thought of being my own boss has been really taking over. All aspects of being your own boss seem to really outweigh working for a company. Now of course you have to start somewhere, so working for others will really benefit you in respects to experience. But before i knew that, i decided to start my own company, even at age 17 i really thought i had a chance, and why not? Of course you have a chance no matter what your age… so i started spending countless hours/days/months working on the basics of a new business. Gather funds, create a plan, execute plan. I did pretty much everything alright, except to foresee the future, where another HUGE company (steampowered.com) will come out with the exact same website just a couple weeks after me (completely unannounced). I am proud, the product i had produced after 6months of hard work was nothing less than worthy. I had gathered a lot of skills required from a business owner, valuable experience in the field. Thanks to people who i will not name i got to understand it’s not money smile that will have you go far in life, its you and your own dedication. No after i have worked for a couple of web development companies, and am still gathering great levels of skills and expertise in the field, i am more and more feeling ready for the so feared 2nd attempt, but if i have learned one thing it is that you CAN NOT give up, even when you receive harsh criticism. To succeed you need to know what you want, and just work at getting it until you do so. A couple months after we could not keep up with server costs and so on, we shut down, currently site is down. But I found an article about us online which was as follows:

    Really happy today smile I was watching the live.37singals.com show, and they have a little window on the right where you can ask them questions, and the whole show goes on with them answering our questions. Now the odds of your question being picked are pretty low… out of a few hundred questions with only an hour time they really need to pick the good ones (or maybe randomly). But anyways, pretty much one of the first questions they answered was mine smile i jumped off my seat, and got ready to listen as they answered my question.

  • Jack Johnson mentions my ex company at the Apple September 2008 Special Event

    iTunes Apple Jack JohnsonOk so here is the low down… I use to work for a company called oniracom and they are really good friends with Jack Johnson (also they make his website, and are extremely good at doing so). So Jack went up on stage as iTunes top seller of all time to perform a few of his really really amazing songs smile before a song he mentions oniracom… and as it turns out somewhere in the song he mentions that the song is for his wife, and something about Ed (coolest guy you will ever meet).
